Does anyone know the names of the three Black slave owners in Louissianna and the location of the plantations I had friends in Louissianna who told me there were three Black slave owners in three different plantations. The plaques and names are there on a tour of plantations. You won't find this info. in books and I want to know about these three slave owners. Thankyou. |

According to federal census reports, on June 1, 1860 there were nearly 4.5 million Negroes in the United States, with fewer than four million of them living in the southern slaveholding states. Of the blacks residing in the South, 261,988 were not slaves. Of this number, 10,689 lived in New Orleans. The country's leading African American historian, Duke University professor John Hope Franklin, records that in New Orleans over 3,000 free Negroes owned slaves, or 28 percent of the free Negroes in that city. |
What is a great topic for a U.S history Project that involves "Black Slave Owners" ? I need help with a good topic. I have my topic which is "Black Slave Owners" but I need maybe a good question that can be answered in my project. Im clueless about what i should do, can someone help me please. |
Since the major sources on this topic (which I have listed below) investigate African-American slaveholders in NY, Louisiana, and South Carolina, why not compare geographical differences in the conditions and motivations for these African-Americans to hold slaves?
In other words, a good research question might be:
How did geographic location effect the conditions and motivations for African-Americans to own slaves?

Weren't African-americans sold from the Black slave-owners to the White people? I've read on Wikipedia that African-Americans were owned by the Black slave-owners in the African tribes before being sold as a slave to White people. And slavery in Africa existed long before the White people came.
By the way slavery still exists in Sudan,Angola,Haiti, South Asia. No White men are involved there.
Why are people in the US so hypocritical .

What??? Who claimed otherwise?
There is white slavery to this day also, if you want to start a slave conversation about "unknown facts", state everything please. |
How did black slave owners treat black slaves? Were they harsh or kind to them? If no one knows, where could I be able to find information about it on the net? Thanks. |
| there are cases of both, but overall keeping anyone in slavery is an unkind act. so you could say all slaves were treated unkindly |
Does the fact that there were also black slave owners in US history change any perceptions? Should people in our modern century still feel guilt about slavery that occurred in our contry before the civil war? It is true that 1.4 percent of whites owned slaves at that time. However, there were also free African American plantation owners that had slaves. Knowing this, should both ethnic groups feel ashamed about the actions of their ancestors or should we move on? |
I don't feel bad about it.
I mean, obviously that was a very dark time for the US, but there's nothing we can do to change what happened now. Let's move forward. |
Exactly how much did white slave owners rape black slaves? It must have been alot because American blacks are so mixed. If you compare them to blacks in African the differences are obvious. So how come we didn't learn about this in History class? |

Where can I find ALOT of PICTURES showing "Black Slave Owners" ? im doing a project and i desperately need some help finding pictures of black slave owners. yes there were blacks who owned slaves. please help me. |
| You need to go to a University library and ask a librarian. (You cannot check out books at a University library that you do not attend, however you can make copies of books there. )The people behind the help desk may not be librarians. Make sure you get a real librarian. Those will be hard pictures to come by. It would help if you had names of some of the black people who owned slaves. Good luck. |
If Reparations are to be paid, to African Americans,. Will Black Slave owners be made to pay also? I don't know if many people know this,...but there were many Black slave owners,..and if reparations are to be paid to the descendents of those slaves...will the descendents of Black Slave Owners, also be made to pay??
Please refer to this article:

Most people just think that slave owners were only White men...
The fact is, that many of them were not. |
| Finally a very smart woman.....who knows facts and is not thinking with her FEELINGS. you go girl. |
How many Black Slave Owners were there in the USA ? and how many had their own Plantations ? |
It's been estimated by one scholar that there were three or four hundred, few of them with more than two slaves.. Researchers admit that there could have been a few more, or much less than that. Hard to tell, as records were few.
None of the black slave-owners had plantations - that was a white "big land-owner" thing. In many parts of the country, and not just the South, there were severe restrictions on blacks owning land.
Black slave-owners were mostly in cities, like New Orleans and Birmingham. Their slaves were rented out for profit, used as workers in small businesses (particularly in New Orleans), or were servants, not used as draft "animals" or farm labor like the plantation slaves.
This tiny ultra-minority is usually used by racists to excuse the racial basis of slavery - "They did it to their own." But the economic facts are that slavery was basically an institution to support white, land-wealthy and cash-poor fake "aristocrats." Most of these "aristocrats" were illiterate, uncultured, deliberately avoided bathing, and were downright savage, much more so than their slaves, contrary to the "Gone With The Wind" myth.
EDIT: Interesting. Someone has a problem.
I said "hundreds." I said "New Orleans" (Louisiana). Nothing I wrote conflicts with what a certain someone wrote.
Yet I am accused of being "politically correct."
Sounds like someone feels a need to be an apologist for the plantation slavers.
I wonder why? Especially since they were such a tiny minority in the South, exploiting both black slaves and poor whites.
Interesting.
I wonder what their response is to the over quarter of a million Southerners who fought for the UNION? 125,000 of them WHITE Southerners?

Should descendents of free black slave owners receive reparations? Don't believe there were black slave owners? See americancivilwar.com/authors/black_slaveowners.htm. |
No. I own NO slaves, never have, never will. Nor do I owe any slaves any reparations. I have never met a slave except slaves to the religion of Islam. Islam still owns slaves, many many many of them.
There are no American slaves. America outlawed this long ago before anyone alive now was born. It is finished here. We owe no reparations for something that is no longer in existance.
The ONLY JUST and SENSIBLE solution is that the people of America..all of them, learn to support themselves and stop avoiding that basic responsibility. |
