What states is public breastfeeding not yet protected in? I know in Utah, the state code states that public breasfeeding, and showing he breast incidental to breastfeeding cannot be conisdered a lewd act. This makes breastfeeding protected in Utah.
What states are not yet as progressive as Utah as far as breastfeeding? | Thirty-nine states have laws with language specifically allowing women to breastfeed in any public or private location (Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Utah, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont, and Wyoming)
I breastfed / am breastfeeding my guys and I did it just about everywhere and anywhere. Though by the time they were talking in sentences we pretty much confined it to before bed and nap time. | What makes public breastfeeding uncomfortable? In response to another question about why nursing moms refuse to pump and bring bottles when going out - I'm wondering what it is about breastfeeding that makes some people so uncomfortable. I get that public nudity isn't proper, but I've never seen a woman nursing with her entire top off or her breast fully exposed. I don't understand the resistance to it. Looking for insight, please. | someone kiss Ethel for me!!
That was the perfect answer.
now, the question is... how can we implant that line of thought into the brains of all "tween" girls right now so that when it's their turn, formula will only be used by fathers when the mother has died, or when a woman has had a double mastectomy, has to undergo chemotherapy, or is HIV positive (or any other similar grave medical condition).
I have a friend who honestly feels that "breastfeeding is not your choice, but your baby's birth right. Formula should be available by prescription ONLY." - that's directly from her myspace page.... I'm not quite that militant, but I do agree with her thinking! | Why do people have such a problem w/ mothers breastfeeding their babies in public? I mean come on people, let's grow up! It's just a breast! I try to be as discreet as possible, although I don't have an issue w/ it if someone's breast is exposed...Personally I'm more offended by someone's 13 year-old daughter's a ss hanging out of her age-inappropriate clothes or the person at the beach who is way too big for the type of swimsuit they're wearing. . But as the saying goes, if you don't like it you don't have to look... same goes w/ public breastfeeding! | | I agree with you 100% I never breastfed my son in public, but for the next one, I most likely will. My in-laws came to visit when our son was 3 months old, and all they wanted to do was go, go, go! I remember I went to the bathroom when we were out to eat to go breastfeed our son and my mother in law came in after I was in there for ONLY 5 MINS and asked, "are you almost done yet?!" you have to be guyding me....then we were at the zoo and my son kept jumping everytime a toilet flushed and there were these huge bugs flying around, let's just say after that I ended up feeding him in the car :( and the trip was a disaster. Never again will I put my future son or daughter through that! I was too worried about offending anyone else and I should have been worried about the kind of enviroment my son had to eat in and I had to stand in. UGH! | Public Breastfeeding debate cons, why should breastfeeding in public be prohibited? i have to debate in class with another student. i am the Cons of the debate. our topic is Breastfeeding in public. i need some good reasons why should breastfeeding be prohibited in public.
so let me know what you think? and if you have any good sources. related court cases or new will be very appreciated.
already checked debatepedia....
thank you | | There is no reason why breastfeeding should be prohibited in public. When a baby is hungry a baby needs to eat. If some pervert or prude has a problem with my feeding my guy that is just their problem. It is natural and the best nutrition for baby. I don't know about other countries but in the US it is legal to breast feed anywhere that it is legal for a mother to be. Many places have been sued about harassing nursing moms. Some people may think public nursing is ok as long as mom uses a cover. I say that is total nonsense. To them I ask: do you eat with a blanket over your head? No? Guess what, neither does my daughter. The best ones are the ones who say I should feed her in the public rest rooms. My answer to them is: do you eat in the toilet? No? Guess what, neither does my daughter. If someone has a problem with feeding a guy maybe they should not spend so much time looking at me. | Is it really wrong to breastfeed in public? What is really wrong with public breastfeeding? Just use a blanket to cover up.
People act like they never seen a breast before. They say that breastfeeding is intimate act and should be done in private. If feeding your guy is a intimate act, then there should not be any pubic eating places. | The problem with a blanket is some babies don't like to be covered while eating (I know I wouldn't...) and in the summer it can be miserable, not to mention cumbersome, to deal with.
I have NO problem with women breastfeeding in public, unless the woman herself does not feel comfortable doing so then no one should try to force her or 'nudge'/encourage/push her to breastfeed in public. And yes, I've met people like that who feel every breastfeeding mom who doesn't breastfeed in public is a traitor of some sort. So long as the woman feels comfortable, then I have no problem with it.
The fact is, women who breastfeed in public rarely show their breasts. They're not trying to show off their breasts. Most get so good at it that people don't even notice that they're breastfeeding (which can be funny if the person comes to look at the baby then notices...) I mean, the intention of breastfeeding, other than some of the jerks out there who are doing it as a political statement, is to feed the baby, nothing more or less, so it's all good.
However, there are some women who don't feel comfortable, I certainly never did and I don't think I ever would have. Breastfeeding to me was intimate and vulnerable. I could do it in a car, but I wouldn't have been able to do it like in a restaurant where someone could come up behind me where I didn't see them. So the feelings of the mother should be respected. But if she feels comfortable, then there's no reason not to.
I'd say it's more inappropriate for someone to change their baby where everyone can see to be honest. | What do you think about public breastfeeding? Recently a woman in the Disney Store at a local discount mall pulled out her t i t and commenced to breastfeed her infant while shopping. The store objected so she went outside and sat on a bench to continue where a security guard asked her to desist.
Well, apparently there is a law in my state that insures the right to breastfeed where one wants, so there was a lot of publicity and apologies, etc.
Then some group of lactating women decided to have a public group breastfeeding at the store and did, which garnered even much more publicity.
I breastfed one guy for six weeks (never in public) and found it disgusting. Some of the women were breastfeeding guyren who were walking, so I have to question their motives or sanity or something.
I see this question has been asked many times before, so I apologize, but I don't want to read those answers. I want to read my own. Also, at what age should the guy be removed from the breast? I think six weeks, or sooner. | | The act of breast feeding is a very natural act. I don't think it should be shared with the crowds. Some body functions and personal body issues are best kept to a minimum of attention. Some people have no problem blowing their nose at the dinner table. It don't really hurt anyone else but it makes some people uncomfortable. It seems to show lack of respect for others feelings. If you look at breast feeding under the same microscope, you can see that it might be a natural act that should be done in somewhat of a private manor!! USMC 60-68 | How do you feel about women breastfeeding in public? Apparently there are still people still confuse a baby’s right to eat with a woman’s right to expose her breasts. Some people still confuse the lactating breast with a sexual organ. Maybe I have no right to tell them they are mistaken.
How do you feel when you see a woman breastfeeding in public?
Also, would any mother like to share a story of people's reactions to you nursing in public? | | I think "that mother is feeding her baby." I guess I don't really think about it much at all. | Why do some people disapprove of breastfeeding in public? I'm a college student. I am doing a paper on breastfeeding in public. I am looking for those who are against breastfeeding in public & why, and those who are for it & why. I may use some of the responses in my paper. Please let me know if it is okay to use in my paper. Thank You. | Both my guyren were breastfed. Guyren are people, and do not deserve to be raised in an environment where the natural act of feeding becomes a political issue. They ate when we ate, or when they were hungry. Anything less is inhumane.
I posted this on the ineternet, so you could use it in your paper. | Are you offended when you see a woman in public breastfeeding? even if she covers herself and the infant, is it offensive to you to see a woman breasfeeding in any public situation? and would you think it wrong for guyren without breast feeding mothers to ever see a woman feeding hedr infant at the breast? | Nope not at all
Any place, any time...after all to ignore a guy's cry for hunger is abuse.
It's all in our society that we have reduced breasts to being sexual objects rather than see them as they were meant to be, to feed a guy.
And I wouldnt be offended in any way if my guyren were to see it, in fact I would much rather have them see a mother nursing her guy than sticking a bottle in its mouth propped up by a blanket as I've seen so many mothers do
To ask a mother to hide while feeding her guy is simply wrong, I feel so bad for those mothers that feel they must hide feeding their guy in a washroom while people all around them are peeing & pooping
Bring out the boobs & feed the baby | What should I do about breastfeeding in public? Should I do something about this? I went to the pool at my moms apartment and the lady who checks in the guests TOLD ME I COULDN'T BREASTFEED my 3 week old baby IN PUBLIC. She said I had to go to my car. I decided not to make a big deal about it so I went into the bathroom but I felt so offended by the way she came at me. That is like saying I can't eat in public, I have to go eat on the toilet! Should I say something to the owners or should I write a letter? I feel violated by what she said, like I was doing a bad thing by breastfeeding my baby. I even had a towel to cover her up. Do you have any suggestions or opinions on what I should do? | First of all, breastfeeding is *legal* in public anywhere in the US. In many states, there are laws *specifically* prohibiting anyone from telling a mother she can't nurse wherever she and her baby are legally allowed to be (in fact, in a number of states, the law reads wherever *she* is allowed to be--in other words, a location has to allow a breastfed baby even if babies are normally forbidden). You do *not* have to cover up (although do it if you feel more comfortable).
You should absolutely take action. First of all, if you live in the US, determine what, if any, laws there are in your state (see sources section below). Then write a letter complaining. And you might want to talk to a lawyer. |
