Do mature women fantasy about teenage boys? Is it true that mature women(age 35-40) fantasy about young guys(age 16-18)? Or is it just a myth?
What if a young guy(age 16-18) approaches a mature women(age 35-40)? Do you fantasy about young guys approaching you? |

Recommendations for a good mature fantasy/adventure novel? I like the whole LotR premise on things ( you know, sword, magic, elves all that nerdy stuff :P )
Something with maybe a little romance and intended for an older reader and somewhat modern please, my book store kinda sucks for old novels. |

What is a good mature anime, that is set in fantasy and has good action and romance in it? When I say “mature” I mean for 18+ NO SEX! I would like one that is set in fantasy that has good bloody action/violence and a good love story and please a good story line and I would like it to be English dubbed if that is possible and please do not say Bleach or Naruto I do not like those! |
Berserk
Cowboy Bebop
Elfen Lied
Ghost in the Shell:SAC
Ghost in the Shell:SAC 2nd GiG (Sequel)
Speed Grapher
All those have great action and some romance in them. They're mature series, you'll definitely be hooked.
There's no romance in "Monster" really, I do second watching it, its one of the greatest series ever created. |
Mature fantasy book list! Suggestions please? I am looking for fantasy/sci-fi books that have a more mature theme, something to think about, like Lord of the Rings made me think. Anything, don't hesitate for reading level or anything, I think I can handle it. So please help! I am dying for something to read! Thanks in advance all =] |
I have answered this question so many times, I decided to dedicate a web site to answer this question. Here it is:
www.life-after-harry-potter.com
Included is a list of only the best sorcery fantasy books, grade reading level, a short review of each book along with a brief summary of adult content. There is also a "Readers' Choice" list of favorite books, and a list of heroine sorcery fantasy books, plus a full review of "The Golden Compass".
All of the following are excellent scifi (author, followed by books).
Jules Verne - free online
Journey to the Center of the Earth (my favorite scifi)
20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
Mysterious Island
H G Wells - free online, and roughly half-length novels
War of the Worlds
The Time Machine (downer ending)
The Invisible Man (unlike many IM stories, he's a villain. This is the original)
Isaac Asimov
I, Robot (you *must* read this - the only "must read" scifi)
Elijah Baley books - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elijah_Bale… excellent both as scifi *and* as murder mysteries - the best of both worlds (warning: adult content in the 3rd book)
Foundation Series - *the* classic scifi trilogy
Andre Norton - *the* classic female scifi author, most of her books involve "coming of age" and pure scifi adventure
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bibliograph…
her best: Star Man's Son (also titled 2250 A.D.)
other excellent:
Judgment on Janus
Forerunner series
Central Control series
Solar Queen series
The Time Traders (Atlantis, magic - very cool!)
The Zero Stone
Another excellent: Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH. Though written for younger readers, I read this recently and it is great! Better than the movie (which was also pretty good).
I hope this helps. Of all the above, I most strongly recommend (for "mature" in style)
Thomas Covenant by Donaldson
Steinbeck's "King Arthur" book
I, Robot and the Foundation trilogy by Asimov

Last time I looked into new fantasy books to read here are some of the top vote "getters" for series at Amazon:
Steven Eriksson Malazan Book of the Fallen
R.A. Salvatore The Dark Elf Trilogy
David Eddings Malloreon Series
Robin Hobb The Farseer Trilogy
George R.R. Martin A Song of Ice and Fire
David Eddings The Belgariad
Tad Williams Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn
Truly loved Robin Hobb's Farseer Trilogy. Might want to start with it or if you haven't already, read Lord of the Rings |
Anyone recommend a dark/mature fantasy novel? So, I've been making an effort to read more recently and I'm in need of a new book.
I'm looking for something dark and mature (I just finished, and really enjoyed The Strain by Guillermo Del Toro) so something of a similar style would be awesome.
Really, I'm just trying to avoid buying something too 'teeny'.
Vampires are nice, but I don't care of the romance based ones. (Twilight has ruined my trust in vampire novels.)
So anyone who can toss out a few book titles will be greatly appreciated. |
Two I'd recommend
Issac's Foundation series. Old classic, Isaac Asimov being the granddaddy of all modern science fiction novels and Foundation series won Huge award's best all time series in 1966. It's old but profound.
Frank Herbert's Dune series. Another old classic, the story was made into one of the earliest RTS game Dune, Herbert's novel is very deep and sometime dark but always meaningful and provoke philosophical minds to think on his words. Dune series is all time classic and fit your theme dark and mature quite well. |
Any suggestions for a depressing book with fantasy thrown in? Very mature themes are wanted!? I've read multiple books. A whole lot more than the average high schooler. Yes, I've read the Twilight saga. I would really love suggestions for depressing books with tragic heros, and if those characters happen to by mythical then its all the more better. But seriously, I'll take anything. Oh! And mature themes are welcome. I'm not faint hearted nor do I get emotional easily... |
The Dark Elf series
American Gods, The Graveyard Book, or Anansi Boys by Neil Gaiman (Anansi boys and American Gods are both focused around mythology)
Neverwhere (also neil gaiman)
Coraline (might be a bit young for you)
Howl's Moving Castle
The Secret Country
Pretties/Uglies
Peeps (interesting vampire books)
Odd THomas books by Dean Koontz
the vampire books by Anne Rice |
